A great selection of Indian/Pakistani groceries and spices are available in Manila at the Assad Mini Mart, UN Ave, not far east of the UN Avenue LRT Station. Phone 02-526-1349 or 02-526-5034.  The small shopping area where Assad is located has several other South Asian food stores and at least one restaurant, the Assad Cafe.  If travelling by taxi, just tell the driver Assad’s is on U.N. Avenue across from the big Unilever plant.

Assad’s  ready cooked samosas are good and the whole wheat pita bread is both good and a great bargain at P25 for a package of five pitas.  Next  time we go to Manila we are going to buy as many as we can bring back.  Pita bread in Iloilo is not as good and far more expensive.

Also, don’t miss the Assad Cafe which is next door.  Although the ambiance is basic, the food is freshly cooked (meaning you have to wait for it to be cooked) and quite good.  The prices are very modest.  We have done a separate review,  but we had Paneer Matar for P134 and Mutton Quorma (with rice or chapati) for P177.  This is much less than you’ll pay at more upscale places.

      • Sorry, are just giving the information on Assad. You will have to contact them (phone numbers are 02-526-1349 or 02-526-5034) to ask if they will ship items to you. We usually stock up when we are in Manila. Good luck.

  5. Hi! I’m wondering if you know of any other grocery stores in Manila that carry Indian food items? This post is a couple of years old, so wondering if this store is still open.
