In the UN Avenue area of Manila, the Hotel Soriente at 545 Bocobo Street (corner of Flores) offers spacious rooms for P1,700 (about $40USD). The hotel is well maintained, secure and in a quiet location for this part of Manila. It’s a short walk to the huge Robinson’s Place mall. Unless you want more luxury, you can’t go wrong with the Soriente. If you do want a bit more luxury, try the Paragon Tower Hotel which adjoins the Soriente. If you want a less expensive hotel, try the Tropical Mansion which is also on Bocobo Street closer to Robinson’s Place. We’ll post a review of that hotel shortly.

Bob,
It mostly depends on traffic — time of day. It’s about 30 minutes except during rush hour. Many taxi drivers will not know the hotel. Tell them to take Roxas Blvd and to turn right on to UN Ave, then right on J. Bocobo. The Soriente is just one block from UN Ave on the right side of Bocobo. There are hotels closer to the airport. For example the Oyster Plaza http://oysterplazahotel.com/index.html. I have not seen or stayed there so am reluctant to recommend it.
